You see me now with my straight pearly whites, but you don’t know how much I sacrificed to get them.
My Crooked Youth
When I was young, I remember my parents talking about the need to have straight, clean and well-formed teeth. At that point of time I was too young to even understand what they were actually talking about. However, as days passed and as I started going to school, I realized there was so much truth to what my parents had to tell about my teeth.
I was like any other girl and was a chirpy, happy-go-lucky sort of a girl. But as years went by and as I moved from one class to another, I realized that my friends in my school and my neighborhood started making fun of me. Only then I found out that I was struggling with crooked teeth.
I had never thought so much about it but I started spending more time in front of the mirror looking at my face. It certainly was one ugly sight and it made me cry and cringe. I started becoming reserved and withdrawn and spent more time in my room. I never knew how what should be my next move. But my parents were mentioning that a visit to a quality orthodontist could help me quite a bit. So we decided to visit a local orthodontist in Edgbaston, Birmingham.
I Did Visit a Dental Clinic
My parents, though not very rich, after getting to know about the benefits associated with orthodontics took to one such clinic. The dentist, on examination, I remember having told my parents that I did suffer from crooked and incorrectly formed teeth. The problem was solvable and all I needed was to look for some professional ways and procedures to have it corrected. I was quite happy that at last there is some hope for me.
However, I was in for a rude shock when I and my parents were told that it would cost big money. Today as a teenager as I sit back and recall those days, I remember how miserably I felt when money was the only reason which was coming in between my crooked teeth and a new life.
But there was nothing much I could do at that point of time. I had to accept it as a way of life because my parents, however much they loved me, simply could not afford the expensive cosmetic dentistry procedure to have the problem rectified.
I Did Not Give Up
As I grew with the problem and as I was the butt of ridicule of many friends of my age, I put up with it with patience and a stoic silence. I started doing some small jobs and started saving money. I used to give tuition to young children in my neighborhood and used to save money. My objective and goal was pretty clear. I knew there was a solution and it certainly was permanent. I gathered enough information from the internet about the benefits of braces as to how I could help in aligning my teeth properly and remove the crooked and uneven surfaces.
There Are Some Undeniable Benefits
As I saved enough money and went through the process of correcting my crooked teeth, I was certain that there are some undeniable benefits and advantages. Though I am only around 27, my experience certainly makes me believe that these are a few advantages.
It offered me quite a few health benefits. I realized that it contributed immensely to my overall dental hygiene. I used to struggle with increased decayed-food buildup of plaque and tartar. However, the moment the braces were implanted my overall oral hygiene improved dramatically.
Increased self confidence.
I also was no longer the butt of ridicule and could move around confidently and was not shy of hiding my smile.
Improved teeth protection.
I realized that these braces helped quite a bit and I believe that my teeth are much better protected now. There is no stress in one area of certain teeth which previously was the problem.
I did have quite a bit of problem when it was about chewing fruits, nuts and even eating ice creams. However, after getting the problem rectified by a professional orthodontist I found that I was able to improve my eating quite significantly.
At the end of the day there is no denying the fact that I did find a new lease of my life as far as my social activities were concerned. But for this procedure, I do not know where life would have taken me. I recommend all those with crooked teeth to seriously look into braces as a permanent option.
